PORTRAIT
Louise Gluck
A child draws the outline of a body.
She draws what she can, but it is white all through,
she cannot fill in what she knows is there.
Within the unsupported line, she knows
that life is missing; she has cut
one background from another. Like a child,
she turns to her mother.
And you draw the heart
against the emptiness she has created.
RETRATO
Uma criança
desenha a silhueta de um corpo.
Ela desenha o que
pode, porém é branco no todo,
ela não pode encher
o que ela sabe que está ali.
Dentro da linha
sem suporte, ela sabe
a vida está
faltando; ela cortou
um fundo do
outro. Como uma criança,
ela se vira para
sua mãe.
E você desenha o
coração
contra o vazio
que ela havia criado.
